Hanes searched for any of his companions. He hadn't seen so much as a scrap from them since things went dark, and it wouldn't be until long after the tide passed that he would see the light again. This wasn't his first time in a tumble. Unit five had worn him out over the years, now the flooded chamber was tossing him about without regard.
He tried to recall how much had been invested into this endeavor and imagined the tedious nickel and diming to afford it. Hanes, and those with him, bore with the work, the sweat, dirt, and mud that had soiled them and now everything was all a wash. The bitter water, the reward for all their hard work.
The world stopped spinning and Hanes rested just above the water like a wet rag. He was grateful for such a reprieve but he anxiously awaited the metal around him to start churning spontaneously with no warning. Hanes waded in the foamy water, knowing that he and everyone with him, would have no choice but wait out the typhoon.
"Sir?" a high voice in the dark called to Hanes.
Hanes could hardly believe what he was hearing. "Is that you Scholl?"
"Yes sir," Scholl replied.
Hanes was impressed. Scholl was new to unit five. The new footman was so fresh, he practically smelled like plastic. Hanes half expected him and his twin to get swept away when water first flooded in, never to be seen again--such things had happened before.
"Seen any sign of Levi?" Hanes asked, keeping the recruit's mind off of what was happening.
"No, I haven't. I... I think he sank below."
Hanes let out an unimpressed grunt, "Don't let the fact that he keeps those tags fool you, Levi's tough. He's been through the ringer before."
"Yes sir," Scholl replied nervously, "Is, is it over sir?"
Hanes listened for the moaning of the mechanical parts in the dark. Trying to discern if the sounds heralded the end of their time or not. The noise of rushing water answered Hanes' question.
"No... That was just the pre-wash cycle."

Okay, I admit it, this was silly beyond belief, but I couldn't resist. This is my first week back to school, and I wanted to do something that was easy and fun--sometimes you just need to use an excess of puns. If you enjoyed it, please like, share, and comment, and if you want more blogs like this than let me know. Have a good week, and remember to solute your next load of laundry--they work so hard!
Update: I was looking over this I decided to make a challenge. Let's see if we can find all of the puns used in this blog. Please post only one word and explain how it's a pun. I'll give an example in a comment.
